The Korean War

We have been given as homework to write about a war. I have chosen to write about the Korean War.

The Korean War was fought between North-Korea and South-Korea. After World War II, Korea was split in North Korea occupied by Soviet Union and South Korea occupied by United States of America. They both decided to leave Korea during 1948 to 1949. North Korea was supported by the People’s Republic of China, and South Korea was supported by the United Nations. The war began 25^th of June 1950 and it was signed peace agreement 27^th of July 1953.

The conflict began when North Korea wanted to be communists, while South Korea would continue as a democracy. Josef Stalin convinced North Korea leader, Kim II Sung, to attack South Korea to gather Korea as one country. This developed into a big, international conflict, which also was a part of the cold war. In North Korea, Soviet had built an army with 135 000 soldiers. South Korea did only have 95 000 soldiers.

In the beginning of the war, North Korea did well. They invaded a lot of South Korea, but when the spring came, their progress stopped. South Korea took the invaded land back, and began to invade more and more land of North Korea. The first ceasefire started in 1951, but the peace agreement was signed the 27^th of July 1953. Although the war is over, North and South Korea are still enemies. North Korea claims that South Korea wants a new war. Several times, gun shots have been triggered, and this might end up in a new Korean War. Time will show!
